The RB20, Oracle Red Bull Racing’s Formula 1 racer for 2024, has been revealed. As the name suggests, it’s the team’s twentieth year in Formula One, which is a noteworthy accomplishment in an incredibly costly sport where organisations come and go based on sponsor winds.
At the Red Bull Technology Campus in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, the RB20 was unveiled. The car hasn’t changed all that much from the championship RB19 from last year, which was an improvement over the RB18, which is hardly shocking. Not even the livery changes.
In 2023, the RB19 claimed victory in 21 out of 22 Grand Prix events. By round 17 in Qatar, driver Max Verstappen has secured his third world championship. He and teammate Sergio Perez finished the season ranked first and second in the 2023 points standings. The unbeatable team scored 451 points more than Mercedes, the next-closest competitor.
The Honda 1.6-liter V6-powered RB19 emerged as the most dominant car in Formula One history during this process. It surpassed the record set by the McLaren MP4/4, which was powered by Honda and won 15 of the 16 races that season, in 1988. Since success is something to be envied, Honda engines are still used in the RB20.
F1 terms define twenty years as an aeon. With the RB1, Red Bull Racing made its debut at the 2005 Austrian Grand Prix. At the age of eight, current F1 world champion and driver Max Verstappen made his debut. Many people at the time, including 13-time Grand Prix winner and former Red Bull driver David Coulthard, believed the team was just a marketing gimmick to promote an energy drink. Still, Coulthard was persuaded to join a team comprised of only a few hundred individuals. The company now employs 1,500 people.
Over the next twenty years, the team brought much-needed joy to the game. To celebrate his first podium with Red Bull, Coulthard jumped into a Monaco swimming pool while only sporting a Superman cape. This was a sign of things to come.
